Cairo and the pyramids, unhurried

Destination guide
The Nile, the museums and Giza early, before the coaches arrive.
Egypt asks for an early start and gives back more than almost anywhere else on this list. Giza sits on the edge of the city, close enough that the pyramids appear at the end of an ordinary street, and the difference between a good morning and a long one is simply being there before the coaches. Cairo itself carries the museums, the old Islamic quarter and a river that has organised the country for thousands of years. South of it the Nile becomes the journey: Luxor and its temples on both banks, the Valley of the Kings, then the slow stretch towards Aswan. We plan Egypt with qualified guides, private transport and a pace that respects the heat, which means monuments in the morning, the river in the afternoon and dinner once the day cools. It is a demanding country to travel well and an easy one to travel badly.

A planner takes you through the current entry and document requirements for every passport in the group before anything is confirmed, then rechecks them before departure. We tell you what is required for your dates instead of repeating a rule that may have changed.
Early, and deliberately so. Giza and Luxor are both at their best in the first hours of the day, before the heat and the crowds, so the itinerary is built around that and the afternoons are kept slower on purpose.
Yes, with qualified local guides and private transport at the sites. It is the difference between walking past a wall and understanding what is written on it.
