Before the skyline
Dubai grew around a creek that connected merchants moving between the Gulf, India and East Africa. Fishing, pearling, dhow building and the souks formed the working texture of the early city.
A city built through connection
Investment in ports, roads and aviation expanded Dubai's role beyond oil. Trade, finance, real estate and tourism then became central to the city's modern identity while older districts kept traces of the creek-side settlement.
